Aptivate is a well-established NGO specialising in information technology for international development. Our organisation represents expertise from international development, industry and academia; we combine best practice from all of these sectors in our work. A founding member of The Humanitarian Centre, hosted by Cambridge University, Aptivate has a strong network of world-class collaborators. Our objective is to improve information access for all. We provide impartial technical advice, project management, publications and guidelines, bandwidth management services and appropriate software and hardware development. We favour an iterative, participatory approach to our work; keeping users at the centre of the process and understanding the entire delivery chain of information services. From improving web usability for developing world audiences, publishing guidelines and conference presentations to managing major projects and working in-country building complex IT systems; Aptivate has established a strong track record in the sector. Founded in 2003, Aptivate has 8 members of staff and a broad pool of skilled volunteers with a variety of technical and developmental backgrounds. We work on both grant-funded projects and services for our clients. Our partners include DfID, INASP, WHO, UNFAO, KENET, UNITU, EPSRC and the Grameen Group.
