Scotland’s International Development Alliance

Scotland's International Development Alliance (formerly NIDOS) was constituted in May 2000 by a group of international development NGOs who wanted to increase communication within the sector in and from Scotland. We aim to contribute to international development by: - encouraging communication and resource sharing among organisations in Scotland concerned with working to eliminate inequality, poverty and discrimination in the developing world - advancing the understanding of the international development sector in Scotland - building the strength and capacity of the non-governmental international development sector in Scotland -providing a forum to discuss and present opinion on key issues of international development with decision-makers within Scotland, the UK and beyond. We act as a central point for the dissemination of relevant information; work with member organisations to identify training needs and access information; encourage communication and resource sharing through email networking, host events to discuss current policy issues, and encourage groups to form around specific areas of interest. We do not claim to represent our members but work with members to discuss and promote current issues to politicians and decision-makers. Politicians, researchers, media, companies and other interested organisations are encouraged to use NIDOS to access the international development sector in Scotland for research and consultation. NIDOS has over 60 members. Membership is open to all voluntary organisations, with a Scottish base, involved in international development work.
